An investment in Becoming…

An investment in Becoming… notice I’m not alone here. My biggest supporter, standing next to me. Always making all of my dreams come true…whether it be nail by nail, board by board; OR a very spur of the moment trip to Best Buy on a typical Monday night. He may give me a hard time, and nearly drive me to insanity on a regular basis, but he is always the First one to believe in anything that I have set my mind to.

As you’ve read, I have my trusty ole Mac Desktop that I’ve had for years. It’s no coincidence that was one of the first big purchases my amazing husband purchased for me when I had just a little dream, about 13 years ago…That deserves another separate story time of it’s own.

Anyhow, I’ve talked about how much easier it would be if I had a laptop, that I could take with me wherever I go, for all of my work and projects that I have planned. Not to go into too much detail yet, but with this new season I am heading into, I’ve been searching for the right MacBook to use. I have been planning to purchase one for myself as soon as I was able to… My husband heard my plans, and how important it would be to me to have this laptop. He has consistently been asking me questions about picking one out for weeks now… “If it’s something that will be helpful to you, then we need to get it…Let’s go look at them.” Knowing how expensive they are, I just held off when he would ask, really waiting to find the right one, and to be sure that this is really something that I need to invest in.

Usually when I “want” something, he doesn’t get that involved… but this time was different. I believe he could hear and see the excitement and eagerness when I talked about how much I really needed this laptop for my new found calling. Yes, I say calling because I know in my heart, that this season isn’t just another “little dream” in the making. I am letting God lead the way.

To say the least, I am so very blessed to have someone by my side to support every dream and goal that I have, no matter how big or small it may be.

This is how we found ourselves at Best Buy just twenty minutes or so before closing, on a Monday night. What you may see in this picture is just me excited and holding a big purchase that my husband just bought for me…To me this wasn’t just an expensive laptop. As I held this bag, I wasn’t thinking about processors and storage space. I was thinking just how blessed I am to have someone to believe in me this much.

I was thinking about all of the late nights I will spend, and hard work there will be to complete…stories yet to be written…homeschool books to be created…shirts that haven’t been designed yet…and a dream that God has quietly been growing in me for a long time.

Maybe one day this computer will have fingerprints from late-night study sessions. Maybe it will hold papers I cried over, prayers I whispered, stories I almost didn’t publish, and finished projects that someday find their way into someone else’s hands.

Tonight it isn’t full of any of those things. It’s mostly empty. But so are gardens before they are planted. And sometimes… that’s exactly where God begins.

This isn’t really a story about technology… It’s another story about how God grows something beautiful long before anyone else can see it.

My notes are still unwritten. My classes haven’t even begun. My projects are still ideas jotted down. The homeschool books haven’t been created. There’s stories still waiting to be told.

There is still so much becoming ahead of me… and maybe that’s exactly where some of you may find yourselves today.

Maybe your dream is still just a thought tucked away in your heart. Maybe you’re waiting for the “right time.” Maybe you’re wondering if you’re capable. Maybe you’re standing at the beginning, just like I am.

If there’s one thing I’m learning, it’s that becoming doesn’t happen all at once. It happens every time we choose faith over fear. Every time we take the next step before we can see the whole path. Every time we trust that God can use ordinary days to prepare us for extraordinary purposes.

This computer isn’t what changed my future…Giving it to God and trusting in Him to show me the way is what is changing my future.

I have a feeling that years from now, when I look back on this ordinary Monday night, I won’t be remembering the store or the receipt. I’ll remember that it was one more place where; God Grew Me Here.

Before you leave, can I leave you with one more thought?

If you’re waiting until you feel completely ready to begin, you may wait forever. The truth is, most beautiful stories don’t begin with confidence. They begin with one small step of obedience. So whether you’re beginning a business, going back to school, rebuilding your family, healing from loss, or simply trying again… Don’t despise beginning.

One day you’ll look back and realize the very place that felt uncertain, was the place where God was quietly growing you all along.

When that day comes, I hope you will be able to smile and say… God grew me here.
